The Los Angeles Lakers won the race for Andre Drummond who was close to joining the Boston Celtics before agreeing to a deal with the reigning NBA champions.

Frank Vogel, the head coach of the Lakers, admitted after the win over the Magic that he talked to his new player and that he is “really excited” about the situation.

“I have talked to him personally. He’s really excited about this situation,” Vogel said. “I don’t want to go too far into the nature of those private conversations other than to say he’s really excited. Probably as excited as we are. I think our team got a lot better.”

Drummond averaged 17.5 points, 13.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game over 25 games for the Cavaliers this season.
