Los Angeles Lakers would like to make some roster additions, if the right opportunity arise ahead of the trade deadline. According to Dan Woike of LA Times, the Lakers could have ‘some interest’ in Cavs’ big Javale McGee.

McGee spent the last season with the Lakers being part of the court that led the franchise to the NBA championship in Orlando.

“I think JaVale McGee would be a nice addition – he’s willing to sacrifice, gives the Lakers a dimension they miss without having to add a huge ego,” Woike wrote

I’ve heard there’s some interest, but McGee would need to be traded to another team from Cleveland and then be bought out to be eligible to sign with the Lakers.”

McGee cannot join the Lakers directly from Cleveland, and that’s because it’s illegal under the CBA for a team to re-acquire a player — in a trade or in free agency — that they traded in the same season.

However, under the right circumstances, the veteran big could return to Lakers in case his team trade him to another NBA franchise, that will bought out his contract.

The Lakers have two open roster spots as they’re waiting to see their options in the buy out market, after the trade deadline.

Frank Vogel’s team is searching for a big to cover for Anthony Davis, who is out with an injury, and the Lakers are certainly going to protect their star, as they hope for another championship run in the postseason.
