On their pursuit to find the team’s next star player, the New York Knicks could look as far as Victor Oladipo as a potential trade target.
Ever since Carmelo Anthony’s move away from the New York Knicks, the team has struggled to find the next person they’d like to build around. The Kristaps Porzingis ship has sailed and when it comes to RJ Barrett and Kevin Knox, it’s just too early to tell as to what they’ll become.
As a result, the management has turned its focus onto acquiring an already established go-to player. A name that has been circulating the news is Victor Oladipo, whose future with the Indiana Pacers seems blurry.
About 18 months ago, Oladipo was a clear All-Star and perhaps even a top-20 player in the league, coming straight off his best season in the league. During 2017-18, he won the Most Improved Player award and led the league in steals.
Unfortunately, the season that followed would be traumatic to him and to all of us, as he would suffer a ruptured quad tendon. This injury forced him to stay sidelined for exactly one year, leaving big shoes to fill for other Indy guys.
Prior to the NBA’s hiatus, Oladipo got back in time to play a total of 13 games, where he averaged 13.8 points and just under a steal per game while being under minute restriction.
The New York Knicks have been monitoring Oladipo’s situation a lot lately, as his future with the Pacers is uncertain at the moment. With the large number of young players and draft picks that the Knicks possess, a trade proposal could end up being too hard to decline.
