The Washington Wizards will have to deal without the team’s superstar John Wall, even if this season is resumed after lockdown.

The 29-year-old point guard was going through a recovery process from a raptured left Achilles tendon. Most recently he was joining the G League training sessions.

With a possibility of a later summer NBA season, fans began speculating that it could give additional time for Wall to recover and possibly make a comeback this season. It turns out, the Wizards expect him to play only next season.

Per Candace Bucker of The Washington Post:

“We’ve said all along that we can’t wait until John plays next season, and I think that will still be our attitude and our stance,” Wizards General Manager Tommy Sheppard said in a recent interview. “We’re very anxious to see John Wall in uniform next year. I don’t think any of this changes that.”

Washington is currently 9th in the Eastern Conference with 5.5 games back behind the Magic. It will be tough task to catch Orlando and jump into the playoffs for the Wizards, regardless if they have Wall or not.
